Yesterday I logged the most miles riding road on the Monocog 29er, I rode for 18.25 miles via San Gabriel River Trail in around 1 hour and 43 minutes. Not bad considering I am on a 28+ pound, single speed and rigid 29er! Not to mention I just started cycling not to long ago.
Short of a quarter century and a marathon’s distance, I know its an attainable goal. I could do that by this weekend weather permitting. The miles flew by easily. I was moving at what I consider a moderate pace for my physical condition and the gear limitation at an average of about 9-10 miles per hour. I focused on smooth pedalling and equal cadence for most of the ride. I only stopped twice to clear my sunglasses of a bug and to wait to cross the street. I practically rode non-stop.
Now my goal is to do a half century (50 miles) by fall, which I am sure I’ll be able to do.
